"Plantem la llavor" accompanies 164 vulnerable migrant people during 2025

The project "Plantem la Llavor" ((Let's plant the seed), driven by the Associació per al Desenvolupament Cultural, Ambiental i Humà (CEHDA) and la cooperative Conreu Sereny, It closed 2025 with a positive balance after supporting a total of 164 beneficiaries through residential care, legal advice, job training, guidance, and awareness-raising activities.

Developed mainly in Badalona, Catalonia, the project aims to facilitate the social and labor inclusion of migrant people in situations of administrative vulnerability, also promoting a greater understanding of the migratory phenomenon among citizens.

One of the main activities was the introduction to the Course of Organic Horticulture, held between April and June 2025 in Sant Jeroni de la Murtra. Fourteen people participated, receiving 84 hours of training on organic farming, composting, irrigation systems, fertilization, agricultural tools, and crop management.

The training was designed based on the participants' prior knowledge, many of whom came from rural backgrounds in their home countries. This approach allowed them to value their experience and boost their self-esteem, while acquiring new skills adapted to the Catalan agricultural context. Attendance and participation rates were 85%, and 78% of the students achieved all the planned competencies.

The training process has been complemented with a practical learning space in the garden managed by CEHDA in Sant Vicenç dels Horts, where five people have been able to consolidate the knowledge acquired with the support of a professional from the entity.

Legal support has been another key pillar of the project. During 2025, 60 individual consultations were provided to 51 people, primarily related to administrative regularization processes, renewals of residence permits, family reunification, changes in permit types, or asylum applications.

Thanks to this service, 11 regularization applications have been processed, four of which have already been approved, while the rest are still being processed. In addition, two people have secured employment contracts, allowing them to begin the administrative regularization process. The service also included a group information session on the different residency options, which was attended by 22 participants.

In the area of residential care, the project has provided accommodation and basic necessities to 13 people in apartments in Badalona and Sant Vicenç dels Horts. Residents have received food assistance, basic necessities, and personalized support through regular mentoring sessions aimed at developing pathways to inclusion and facilitating access to public resources.

In parallel, six workshops on the labor market, health, and citizenship rights have been held. These activities have helped to strengthen participants' autonomy by providing practical information on labor rights, access to public services, and health promotion.

At the end of the year, the project also incorporated a weekly Catalan conversation workshop for migrants interested in later participating in the horticulture course. This initiative aims to strengthen language skills as a tool for social and professional inclusion.

Raising public awareness has been another key focus of our work. In 2025, a talk was given at the Pau Gargallo School of Art in Badalona to 45 second-year high school students, where a member of the CEHDA team with migration experience shared their life journey and reflected on the right to migrate from a human rights perspective.

The results show a progressive improvement in the autonomy of the participants. Access to specialized training, legal support, coverage of basic needs, and knowledge of local resources have all contributed to strengthening their pathways to social and employment inclusion, especially during a period marked by administrative and economic vulnerability.

The project also stood out for its extensive networking with social organizations and public administrations. Participating organizations included: Noves Vies, Ponts per la Pau, CAL, CEPS Salut, Salut Mental Barcelonès Nord, Aurea SocialFundació Banc dels Aliments, Associació ISIL and the "Programa d'Atenció Integral a Persones Sense Llar" (EDAPSS) of Ajuntament de Badalona, among others.

According to the final assessment, "Plantem la llavor" has significantly contributed to reducing inequalities affecting vulnerable migrants, facilitating access to regularization processes, training and employment pathways and essential resources, while promoting a more informed and critical view of the migratory reality among young people.
