In April 2026, the results of the project "Rooting food sovereignty from school" were presented, an educational initiative aimed at promoting a more conscious, sustainable and territorially linked diet among students.
The project makes available to educational centers various teaching resources so that teachers can work in the classroom on concepts such as food sovereignty, responsible consumption, agroecological production and the importance of supporting local producers. Through practical activities and materials adapted to different educational levels, the aim is for children and young people to develop a critical vision of the current food system and its social and environmental impacts.
The promoters of the initiative consider that school is a key space to promote healthy and sustainable eating habits, as well as to raise awareness among new generations about the need to build a fairer and more environmentally friendly food model.
With this project, the role of education is reinforced as a fundamental tool to advance towards food sovereignty and promote a more responsible citizenry with their consumption decisions.
The project "Rooting food sovereignty from school" has been promoted and executed by Llaurant Barcelona, a non-profit cooperative specializing in environmental education, agroecology and social transformation. The initiative was developed between 2024 and 2026 with the aim of bringing the principles of food sovereignty closer to educational centers through pedagogical materials and activities adapted to different educational stages.
The entity works from an educational and community perspective, promoting a more sustainable, healthy and fair food model. Its actions focus on raising awareness of the origin of food, promoting responsible consumption, defending agroecological and local production, and raising awareness about the social and environmental consequences of the current food system. To achieve this, it collaborates with schools, public administrations and other organizations linked to education and sustainable development.
In this project, Llaurant Barcelona has developed teaching resources for teachers so that food sovereignty can be worked on in a transversal way in the classrooms. The materials include proposals for participatory activities, reflection tools and content that help students understand the relationship between food, territory, environment and social justice. The ultimate goal is to form a critical citizenry committed to a more sustainable and equitable food system.
